About me
I was born and raised in Barbados, which has a population roughly the size of Oakville 鈥 that should tell you just how small my island is! I work in communications and marketing. I鈥檓 fun and quirky, maybe a little moody sometimes. I may come across as quiet, but those who know me know I can be a huge yapper: it just takes the right person for me to open up.
I can also be very passionate and a little too empathetic about things I care deeply for, such as animals. I watch TikTok videos of dogs or cats and cry knowing that someone has hurt them 鈥 but seeing them make a 180 transformation in a loving home makes me so happy. Any potential partner must love dogs.
I鈥檓 a bona fide lover girl: I love so deeply, not just when it comes to a partner, but in my friendships. If I love you, I鈥檒l make sure that you never question it. I think it鈥檚 a beautiful thing when you can bare your entire being to someone else, even the parts that aren鈥檛 the greatest, whether that鈥檚 a short temper or an attitude.
My relationship history
I鈥檝e been in a few long-term relationships, ranging from a year-and-a-half to five years. I鈥檝e been single for the last five years, and I鈥檝e truly missed being able to fully love someone. I鈥檓 really big on 鈥渢he little things,鈥 like putting a cute note in your lunch bag in the hopes that it makes you smile, sending you cute messages throughout the day whenever I think of you, and planning fun activities for us to do.
I typically date using apps, which can be quite mentally exhausting. It鈥檚 hard to meet people in person: when I go out, it鈥檚 mostly couples around and the few people that seem single are very standoffish. It is a truly different vibe and culture from what I am used to back home in the Caribbean where people are very friendly and eager to express their interest in you.
What I’m looking for
I鈥檓 looking for my best friend. I want someone I enjoy doing any and everything with: grocery shopping, cooking, taking long drives and taking a walk (hopefully with our puppy!) I really look forward to just making dinner, having a glass of wine and enjoying a fun game of Jenga or Scrabble.
I鈥檓 looking for a partner who is kind-hearted, empathetic and trustworthy 鈥 a gentleman with a good spirit who is chivalrous, opens doors and treats others with respect. Loyalty and reliability are essential: I want someone who will stand by me through life鈥檚 ups and downs. I also appreciate someone who is open-minded, willing to try new things and embraces spontaneity.
From lack of local banter skills to a phenomenon known as “the Miami effect,” daters told
I value deep conversations. I appreciate a partner who listens with intention and expresses their thoughts and feelings honestly. I don鈥檛 want a partner who is very secretive or doesn鈥檛 talk a lot. I may be a big talker, but I don鈥檛 want the conversation to be one-sided: I want back-and-forth and dialogue, and genuine interest in what each other has to say. I also hate the feeling that I鈥檓 pulling teeth to get information out of someone. If you mentioned that you went to lunch, give me details. I don鈥檛 want to feel like I am interrogating you: 鈥淲here did you go? What did you eat? Did you like it?鈥
I鈥檇 prefer someone who isn鈥檛 too much of a homebody; I enjoy experiencing new things and exploring, even if it鈥檚 going to a food truck festival and trying new cuisine 鈥 or trying indoor skydiving (which I鈥檝e done!). Lacking leadership is a deal-breaker for me: I don鈥檛 want someone who is easily influenced or struggles to make decisions or stand by their beliefs. I value a partner who takes initiative in romance, so someone who can鈥檛 take charge in that area is also a no for me.
Why I’m putting myself out there
I鈥檓 ready to try something different. It鈥檚 clear what I鈥檝e been doing hasn鈥檛 been working so I want to put myself out there and do something new! As a hopeless romantic, I keep the hope alive. Dating in Toronto may suck sometimes, but I believe that love is out there for me.
